Accessibility check: Where are people stuck on your website?

Enter the URL and have 12 WCAG criteria checked - with reference to the respective success condition. Free, without registration.

What this check cannot do

Automated tests only detect a portion of all accessibility problems - research usually speaks of around a third. Contrast values in combination with background images, usability with the keyboard, the comprehensibility of the texts and the behavior with screen readers cannot be assessed in this way. The result is therefore one Initial assessment and no proof of WCAG compliance.

What is actually mandatory in Austria since 28.6.2025 and for whom the exceptions apply, is stated in the guide: Accessibility Act Austria – who is affected.

What is automatically checked here

Side language 3.1.1

Does the <html> tag indicate which language the page is in?

Alternative texts 1.1.1

Do images have an alt attribute - or are they missing entirely for blind users?

Form fields 1.3.1

Does each input field have an associated label?

Link texts 2.4.4

Do links say more than “click here”?

Controls 4.1.2

Do buttons and icon links have a name?

Headings 1.3.1

An H1, no skipped levels?

Page title 2.4.2

Is there a <title> to differentiate the pages?

Zoom 1.4.4

Does the viewport block zooming?

Iframes 4.1.2

Do embedded elements have a title?

Autoplay 1.4.2

Does media automatically start with sound?

Tab order 2.4.3

Are there tabindex values greater than 0?

Jump mark 2.4.1

Is there a “skip to content” link?

And what you have to check manually

No tool replaces these four things - they account for the majority of the real problems:

  1. 1. Operate with keyboard only. Use Tab and see if you can get everywhere and always see where you are.
  2. 2. Listen with a screen reader. NVDA (Windows) or VoiceOver (Mac) – you know more after five minutes than after every scan.
  3. 3. Measure contrasts. The Contrast checker covers text against a known background; images and gradients do not.
  4. 4. Read text at 200% zoom. If content disappears or overlaps, this is a breach of 1.4.4.

Questions about the accessibility check

Is the accessibility check free?

Yes, without registration and without saving. The URL is only retrieved for checking and is not saved. There is a limit of 6 tests per 2 minutes for the evaluation.

Does this mean my website is WCAG compliant if the check is green?

No. An automated scan only finds about a third of possible problems. Contrast in context, keyboard operation, comprehensibility and screen reader behavior cannot be assessed automatically. A manual check is required to provide reliable evidence.

What is the difference to a test according to WCAG 2.1 AA?

The check here checks 12 machine-recognizable individual criteria. A WCAG 2.1 AA audit goes through all 50 success conditions - automated and manual - and documents the result in a way that is useful for accessibility declarations and clients.

When am I legally obliged?

The Accessibility Act has been in effect since June 28, 2025, but not for everyone. The industry and company size are decisive; there are extensive exceptions. Our guide explains this objectively - we will also tell you if you are not affected at all.

What does it cost to have the findings corrected?

This depends on how many findings there are and whether your website was self-built. We first check manually, prioritize according to risk and effort and then give a fixed price - before, not after.
