When WordPress is the Right Choice – and When Not
We don't sell a system, we choose one. WordPress is the most economical solution for a lot of projects - and the wrong one for a few. We'll tell you both before, not after the first invoice.
- • Classic company websites and business cards
- • Content that you want to change yourself
- • Blogs, Ratgeber, Newsbereiche
- • Smaller shops with WooCommerce
- • Termine, Buchungen, Formulare
- • Multilingual pages with standard requirements
- • Own business logic, roles and approval processes
- • Connection to ERP, merchandise management or interfaces with rules
- • Very high load with complex caching
- • Portale, in denen Kunden eigene Bereiche verwalten
- • Anything where plugins become an invisible building
For these cases, we build individual software – without using plugins.
The reference to "too many plugins" is not a prejudice, but rather experience: As soon as functions are put together across half a dozen providers, no one can say why something doesn't work. We would then prefer to build our own narrow solution.
What a WordPress website really costs
"WordPress is free" is only true for the core. The real costs arise during construction, operation and the decisions in between:
| Post | Magnitude | What it hangs on |
|---|---|---|
| Building the website | ab 990 € | Page number, whether texts are added, individual design or adapted template |
| Shop / Booking | ab 2.990 € | Product number, payment provider, shipping, invoices, special cases |
| Hosting | ab 9,90 €/Monat | Storage, SSL, test environment |
| Wartung | Included in the hosting packages | Updates, backups with restore, monitoring |
| Plugin licenses | 0-500€/year | Payment, booking or translation extensions are often subscriptions |
| domain | Included in hosting | standard ending; Premium on request |
Fixed price for the agreed scope. What we not do: name a low price and collect the difference later via additional items. Cost guide and in Webdesign-Leistungsbild.
Five Places Where WordPress Websites Fail
1. It is never updated
The most common cause of hacked WordPress sites is not an ingenious attack, but rather an installation that hasn't received security updates for two years. Old extensions are the classic entry point. This can only be solved regularly, not once.
2. There is no working backup
A backup that has never been tested is not a backup, but an assumption. What matters is not that there is a file somewhere, but that the page is created from it actually restored within hours. We check that before we promise it.
3. Changes go live immediately
Without an environment for testing, you are editing a website that is currently serving customers. A faulty update then becomes a visible failure. We first test changes separately and then implement them.
4. Nobody knows who owns what
Domain in the name of the service provider, website access unknown, plugin licenses somewhere: When the collaboration ends, the search begins. With us the domain is owned by you and the access is handed over in an orderly manner. It should keine Binding over data sovereignty arise.
5. No one is in charge
Between “hosted somewhere” and “maintained by someone” is the difference between a website that works and one that you get annoyed about. package, no additional service.
Take over and clean up an existing WordPress site
A common starting point: the site has been around for years, was built by someone no longer tangible, is slow, and no one has time to care about it. We'll take care of it Without new construction – provided it makes economic sense.
- 1. Technical inventory: versions, extensions, update backlog, security situation, loading time.
- 2. Assessment: renovate or build new – with a comparison in effort and costs, not in marketing language.
- 3. Takeover of domain, DNS and website backups, planned in a window where nothing fails.
- 4. Ongoing care so that the condition does not relapse again.
If an installation is hacked or contains third-party content, we first clean up and secure it - not build a new one straight away. Details about this are in Email authentication guide, if the site was also used to send spam.
WordPress and Accessibility
WordPress does not automatically make a website accessible – nor does it automatically make it inaccessible. It depends on the template, the extensions and the implementation. Practically, this means that many finished templates fail due to contrasts, usability without a mouse or form fields without labeling.
This has been relevant in Austria since June 28, 2025: This Accessibility Act covered by, inter alia: Online shops and booking routes, in which consumers can conclude a contract. Small businesses are excluded from services. Whether you are affected depends on the industry and size - the guide goes through this matter-of-factly, without scaremongering.
